The Boulder Road Runners kicked off the new year in style with a prediction run at Harper lake in Louisville, CO.
The rules are fairly simple. Don’t look at your watch for pacing, guess your finish time no matter the pace, and the closest one to their predicted time wins.
The plan was to run two loops of Harper Lake around the wide gravel surface, but snows earlier that week and overnight freezing temperatures left the path a bit icy and ankle-twisting underfoot. Even our contingency route on the roads just south of that trail was strewn in ice rivers across the road that would have been even more dangerous. In a last-minute scramble we mapped out approximately a mile out and back course on the cleared sidewalk adjacent to McCaslin Blvd, then left on Via Appia before turning around and returning on the same course leaving a long hill on the return.
Tom Lemire took top honors, blowing his New Year’s horn as he approached the finish line, besting his finishing time by a mere :06 seconds. Nancy Antos was second closest with a 37″ differential. Tom later confided, “one secret of success to score consistently well in predicts is to know your “anaerobic (discomfort) pace”, to do the math, and to have a lot of luck.”
Top area photographer Dave Albo made it out for the fun. Some highlighted photos are below and on our FB Page. All photos are free for download on his website. lane1photos.com.

2023 Predictions
Dave Albo predicts the Broncos will win more games in the new year than in ’22.
Jeanie Fries predicts the new physical therapy strengthening efforts will fix her recurring injuries and keep them away for the future.
Todd Straka predicts he will try and avoid social media more and read more books, but knows that probably wont be the case.
We predict that the Boulder Road Runners will continue to grow strong in membership and in our race results for another fantastic year as a club!
