The fastest mile at altitude, this high-energy, thrilling race is a one-of-a-kind event in the West.
Something For Everyone!
The Mile High Mile is back for its 8th season—bringing together Boulder’s running community for an unforgettable night at the track.
From first-time runners and youth athletes to competitive racers and elite milers, this event is designed for everyone who wants to experience the magic of racing a mile.
Held at Boulder High School in the heart of downtown Boulder, the event takes place during one of the city’s most energetic running weekends, alongside the excitement of the Boulder Creek Festival and the BOLDERBoulder 10K Expo. The streets, trails, and parks are buzzing with runners, families, and fans all weekend long.
Expect music, cheering crowds, athlete introductions, and the unique energy that only a track meet under the evening sky can deliver.
Two Ways to Run the Mile
Community Miles – Chip Timed
Starting in the afternoon, the track opens to everyone.
Run your mile in a fun, welcoming environment with:
- Chip timing with instant results
- Printed finisher certificates
- Rolling wave starts about every 15-20 minutes
- Open to all ages and abilities, including youth runners
Miss your wave? No problem. Just jump into the next one and run your mile.
This portion of the event is perfect for families, youth runners, and anyone who wants to challenge themselves over four laps of the track.
Competitive Heats – FAT Timed
As the evening progresses, the event transitions to traditional track meet racing with Fully Automatic Timing (FAT).
These heats will be seeded by pace and may include:
- High School races
- Open and sub-elite heats
- Masters competition
- Elite Women’s and Elite Men’s Mile races
Athletes in these sections will experience the full meet atmosphere with introductions, competitive fields, and the opportunity to break the tape.
Stay for the Fastest Racing of the Night
The evening builds toward the Elite Women’s and Men’s Mile, where top local and national athletes take the track.
Stick around, cheer from the rail, and experience the electric finish as Boulder’s fastest milers race under the lights.
Race Day Registration
We’ll also offer race day registration, so runners can simply show up and join the fun.
Whether you’re chasing a personal best, introducing a young runner to their first track race, or just looking for a memorable community event, the Mile High Mile delivers a night of racing you won’t want to miss.
