The racing was on fire at the USATF Mid-American Indoor Championships, held Sunday, February 19, 2023, at the Mountain Lion Fieldhouse, UCCS in Colorado Springs.
Seventeen Boulder Road Runner masters athletes competed in various events throughout the day, culminating in the 4x800m relays.
Back on the track for another American Record, this time it’s for the Indoor 4×800 relay. The indomitable BRR W70 runners each ran their four laps on the 200-meter indoor track. The lady speedsters owned Lane 1 and came in at 18:09:03. Well done!
All four of these women were making their indoor track debut! Three returning racers from the W70 Outdoor 4X800 relay American Record (16:54:93) in August – Nancy Antos, Linda Yarr, Lynn Hermanson – were joined by Gisela Bennett on the anchor leg.
The M50 team also had a banner 4×800 race. The same team that grabbed the M55 Outdoor 4x800m at the Mid-America outdoors last summer, John Borthwick, John Probst, Charles Trujillo, and Todd Straka cruised around the field house to finish with a final time of 10:02.26 besting the previous club record by 35 seconds and despite the tight turns, ran faster than they did last summer (10:14.17).
Both records are pending certification.
