Two Boulder-based teams, male and female ages 50+, won their categories at the epic Hood to Coast relay Aug 22-23. With 12 determined runners, they covered 197 miles from the base of Mount Hood all the way to the beach in Seaside, Oregon.
The BRR men’s team hoped to break their own course record from 2023, but the unusual and extreme heat prevented that feat. Yet they secured a win, nonetheless finishing 24th overall. BRR team members: Eric Abecassis, Flavio DeSimone, Rick Granquist, Tony Hauser, Kevin Konczak, Mike Mallon, Chris McDonald, Garry Roseman, Roger Sayre, Brian Schmidt, Todd Straka, and Frank Zoldak.
Despite the 100+ degree temps, the women’s team handily won their category by more than three hours. They also placed 10th out of 58 total women’s teams, across all ages. BRR team members: Lesia Atkinson, Kirsten Borbe, Marcey Cote, Kate DeSimone, and Vicki Hunter.
