Nearly 60 Boulder Road Runners members came out for the Club’s Summertime Picnic at the Boulder Reservoir on Sunday, Aug 13. A mix of longtime members and newer folks relaxed under calm, cool, and dry evening skies.

“It was really nice to see everyone enjoying an evening together, catching up with one another, and just having fun in a beautiful setting,” said Kate De Simone, BRR Membership Chair who organized the event.

The free food and drinks were popular, as the crowd devoured the delicious spread from Flower Child, as well as beer, wine, non-alcoholic beer, and flavored soda waters. In a shift from running, some members played games, trying their hand at bocce ball and volleyball.

BRR Poet Laureate Virginia Shultz captured the essence of the picnic with this poem:

FLOWER ROAD PICNIC

THE end of summer air, gentle
lapping of conversation and
stirred water, tossing yellow
blue red rounds, thirst
psssssssssssssssssssch
handheld and cheered

IN evening fresh ripples,
laughter among friends
competitors teammates
sharers of determination
friends of friends, partners
in so many ways, stories
entraining into a cadence
of running togetherness

THE dusky mountains
framing forks laden with
acknowledgment play
achievement aspiration,
spoons full of catching up
wishing well, turn for
turn over tables and grass
fading with the sunlight,
scattering, full and nourished
with more laps — on the horizon
